The windows in this Logan Square two-flat had been neglected for decades.  The mill finish aluminum storms were at least 50 years old and falling apart.  Peeling white paint, putty falling off in chunks, broken ropes, and windows rattling in the wind were problems the new owners wanted to address.  On the plus side, all the building’s original vintage trim details remained intact after 100 years, a testament to the high quality materials and design in traditional Chicago construction.

We removed the aluminum storm windows, disassembled the old windows and applied new glazing putty, weatherstripping, new chains, and adjusted the windows for proper fit and movement, scraped, painted, and then built and installed our patent-pending low-e wood storm/screen units to take the place of the aluminum storms.  Despite all the years of neglect, we found only one small area of rot in one sill, which we quickly repaired with structural epoxy.
