This brick two-flat in East Village remains virtually unchanged from the time it was built in the late 1800’s. The basement is filled with the original wood storm windows which had not been put up in many years, and the sashes appeared to be in dire condition. However examination showed that, as is typical, the old-growth wood had no rot. Simple repairs to the sashes, the addition of weatherstripping, replacing the broken chains, and addition of low-e storms should allow many more years of energy-efficient service for these windows. The owner chose an aluminum storm, since these windows are not visible from the street.
